Monthly Budget Builder
A free monthly budget calculator. In five quick steps, see what you earn, save and owe each month, and how much is left to spend.
How the Monthly Budget Builder works
Paychecks and bills arrive on different schedules, which makes a monthly budget hard to see. The calculator converts every amount you enter to a monthly figure, then shows five numbers: your take-home income, savings taken from your paycheck, savings from your take-home pay, your bills, and what's left over for everyday spending.
What's left over is your take-home income minus savings from take-home pay and minus bills. Paycheck deductions such as 401(k) contributions aren't subtracted again, because they come out before your pay reaches your account.
How amounts convert to monthly
| Schedule | Payments per year | Monthly amount |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly | 52 | Amount × 52 ÷ 12 (about 4.33×) |
| Bi-weekly (every 2 weeks) | 26 | Amount × 26 ÷ 12 (about 2.17×) |
| Semi-monthly (twice a month) | 24 | Amount × 2 |
| Monthly | 12 | Amount × 1 |
| Quarterly | 4 | Amount ÷ 3 |
| Annually | 1 | Amount ÷ 12 |
